I have been painting since a very early age, and although
I have never pursued my Painting and Sculpting as a full time vocation, I find it
very relaxing, therapeutic, rewarding and consuming as a hobby.
Most of my Artwork combines simplified form and Intense Color, concentrating
mostly on the Human form (in particular the female form). Originally inspired by artists such as Henri Matisse,
Gauguin, Modigliani, Klimt, Picasso, Chagall and Derain, however more recently inspired
by my travels to places such as India, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Middle East and Africa,
where strong color contrasts, simple pattern and design, symbolism and the use of mosaic also
struck an affinity with me.
Around 1999/2000 I became interested in Sculpture, where
I attended Summer Courses and workshops through the West Hampstead Art School and
Arts Express Studio in South London concentrating on Clay Sculpture and Stone carving,
and the Mosaic Workshop in North London to learn the techniques of Mosaic, more recently
on returning to New Zealand I have been working with Darjit to create Garden Sculpture.
